Heard last night on the radio.

Menu Foods has completed the investigation.

The food was tainted with RAT POISON!!!!!

This was not error. This was a deliberate, malicious attempt by a sicko to harm our animals!

The company has now involved police to investigate who is responsible for this sick, sick act.

OMG..how could someone be so cruel...sheesh...

Mothers day two years ago I had a boxer who died from rat bait poisoning, he had gotten out of my fence and found a bucket of rat bait and proceeded to open the bucket and eat about half of it.... The poison in this rat bait was bromethaline. It didnt cause the bleeding out as most rat baits do, it caused irreversible neurological damage and there was/is no cure for it. It was raining the day he got out and he had torn up the trash that was sitting out, I put him back in the fence and left the trash out becuase it was raining. The next day I was cleaning up the mess and found the opened bucket. Dallas(dogs name) was still acting fine, but I new he had ate it, so an emergency call to the vet was put in and I took him. The vet gave him vitamin K and we thought that would be then end of it....Well, the next day, Friday, Dallas wasnt acting right, his movements were off and he seemed a bit uncoordiantaed, I called he vet back and she said to keep a close eye on him. Sat morning I went to work and found another container of the same rat bait Dallas had eaten and looked at the ingriedients, I then called and got the MSDS sheet on it. I forwarded this to the vets office and immediately went home to get him and take him back to the vet. When I got home, he couldnt walk, I took him in to the vet. I could tell he was scared and hurting. The vet kept him and started the treatment protocol for the poison. Sunday around 2 pm he passed on.

To sum it up, being poisoned leads to a horrible death. The loss of my beloved pet , two thousand dollars later... I will under no circumstances have any type of poison at my house no matter what.

How on earth could someone be so cruel as to poison food made for consumption, regardless if it is for animals. What if a child has gotten into it...geez..this preson should be fed the posion and let suffer to there death.

Actually, they believe the poison entered the food via wheat imported from China. The poison is not regulated in China.

The whole situation is unfortunate, hopefully things will change for the future and the pet food makers will be forced to regulate their production on par with food for human consumption.

Menu Foods also made this official announcement regarding payment of veterinary care for animals sickened by the recalled products: "If Menu Foods product is the cause of sickness or death, Menu Foods will take responsibility. Please keep copies of all your vet records and receipts for pet food purchases as well as vet bills."

Of course you must provide proof of having fed the food in the form of receipts.

But some like me, fortunatly my dogs seem fine, only fed wet food for weening purposes and no longer have the recipt so I'm screwed if these dogs get sick.

Blue,
Sorry to hear about your dog, That is a terrible thing.

And so is all this about the poisoned foods. I was watching the news a few nights back and this man has spent 3,000 dollars on his cat already because of this harmful food. it gave the cat Acute Kidney Failure. the cat had to be put on iv's and came home with them.
they SHOULD take responsibility and I agree w/blue they should make the person who did this to our animals... SUFFER like the poor animals did when they ate that food

I hope in the future they can do their job better and make the food healthy for our animals. !

p.s. hope everyone's animals here at AC are doing good! :)

I've also heard of some pet owners paying for the autopsy out of pocket.

In my mind, without a receipt, but an autopsy saying cause of death was this rat poison, I think you still have a case.

That should be the case Shelby....but their likely argument would be, "How do we know the animal ingested rat poison from our food and not some other source?" Case in point...Blue's dog. Died from rat poison, but not from pet food. I'm not saying its right to do that, but it's probably what would happen.

Well...I realized that the poison in this case isn't distributed in the US. In that case, an autopsy should work.

cant speak for the US, but in Canada, its pretty much Warfarin available to end users. There really wouldn't be any other type of rat posion in the house

Let us hope it is not terrorist activity. Hey, not to say that our animals are not our children but it could have been baby food for all we know!
