The gravel in my aquarium seems to be very apt at scratching the glass, My concern is there are numerous scratches on the bottom of my tank, and im wondering if this will cause structural problem, or cause the glass to break at all.

I know glass just needs to be scored to "cut" it, so now im sort of concerned about the bottom of my tank.

I do have a 1" think sheet of styrofoam underneath it.

IMO, the difference in force needed to break glass that has "scratches" on it and that which it would take to break unscratched glass would be "nearly" the same. Scoring cuts much deeper than a scratch and goes from edge to edge. If you score a piece of glass without going edge to edge, it takes more force to break it. So, if it breaks with scratches from rocks, it would probably have broken anyway.

Like I said, my opinion. Not sure if there are any glass gurus here or not, but feel free to correct me if wrong.

I wouldn't worry. Have had glass tanks for years and never had a problem. What is your substrate made of?

Its just some blue gravel. 50Lbs of it (I will need to add some more shortly)
