Is salt for Ick OK with Corys and Otos?

Well I am definately new at this so I am no scholar.....but I unknowingly bought two platies that had ick. I treated with ick guard 11 and my tank went to crap and the fish seemed stressed. Then to top it off the ick came back. Some people here gave me a website to go to that gave awesome advice about treating with salt. It never said anything about not doing it with cory's or oto's. I just went ahead and did it. Although I didn't go to the full 2 tsp. per gallon that was suggested....only cuz I wimped out. I made it to 1 and 3/4 tsp. per gallon. I have 2 albino cory's and they are totally fine and it has been a week. I think it has more to do with going slowly and getting the fish used to it. I'm sure if you just added the full amount right away it would hurt them. This is just my opinion tho as this is my first tank. And I don't have any otos yet so don't know if they would react the same as my cory's. Will see if the ick comes back LOL. Maybe someone else here can confirm what I am saying and what I did. I printed all the info from that site....here is the link if you choose to check it out.

Good luck! :)

My julii cories did not tolerate a salt/heat treatment. I cannot tell whether the salt or the heat was the culprit, though.

It is fine. There are good articles on the system here and on the aquafacts site (aquafacts.net). The prolem with salt is for long term not in the short term, so 2-3 weeks at 1-2 tsp per gallon is not a problem. Any fish that die from the treatment would most likely not survive any treatment.

My cories were passing out during the salt/heat treatment. Well, the three that didn't die. They were losing consciousness and floating belly-up or in weird angles. I thought they were dead, but they recovered after 10 seconds or so. This happened cyclically. I immediately ceased the treatment and switched to the meds, which they tolerated well.

But julii cories seem to be a bit more sensitive, anyway.
