View Full Version : Thinking my bristlenose's are common pleco
just looking at my plecs the other day. when are there bristles ment to show up? i'm starting to think i got ripped off. will post a pic soon.

Mine started with some small ones around the lip area not like on some pictures you see with them coming up between their eyes.
Now mine has quite long ones around the lip area but nothing still on his main face (I know these arn't proper terms for the parts of the pleco i'm talking about haha...) Oh and mine is probably a girl but her name is Tom.
Some female bristlenoses never get any bristles at all. Others get a few at the sides of the head. I think the fish have to be about 2½ inches for the bristles to show up.
I finaly got a decent pic of one of them. they both look the same except the other one is 2x bigger.

Its for sure a bristlenose, it looks pretty small still so the bristle probably wont be developing yet if it is a male, but if it is a female there is a good chance it will never get any bristles maybe just a few around the lower lip.
Mine got some tiny bristles just now. After half a year ;).
