Being inspired by a post a member made of her 10G with just shrimp. I would like to get my old 5G and have a SO (shrimp only :D) tank. however i have no filter.will i really need one for 8-10 shrimp and if i do Massive water changes every week. im either going to have ghost or amino (spelling?) in the tank. also, are they 100% tropical or could they survive easily at room temp?
I don't even think that you'd have to do massive water changes if the tank were planted. The shrimp you have mentioned are tropicals but, heater won't cost you to much. Fwiw, and this is just a personal preference I'd go with cherry shrimp they don't have a free swimming larval stage and your tank would soon be chock a block full.
Most inverts produce very little metabolic waste in comparison with fish . You can always controle their population by selling some of them as well," I noticed your sig and 10 quid isn't very much"

Yeah. i have a small heater that has more than enough power to keep the tank heated. i will put in some silica sand from my established 30G and than plant it. then i will get some cherry shrimp :D thankyou.

For a smal tank, unless you're faced with cool room temperature under 62 (22c) degrees then you probably won't need a heater. I wouldn't use a heater on a tank that small, too much hassel, and they any malfunction will cook the tank. As long as the room temperature is okay for you, then it would be okay for shrimp, especially Cherries and Amano (which don't breed in freshwater).
