Hello to everyone. I have been in the freshwater hobby for about 4 years now with some good success. At this moment I have a 46 gal. bow front with a pleco, two red jewel, firemouth, and nicaraguan cichlid. Yesterday I changed my substrate from rock to sand. I used quickrete play sand from Lowes. I also changed my HOB filter from a marineland emperor 280 to a 400. As soon as I put my fish back in the nicaraguan loved it. He is now playing in it using his side fins to stir it up. The water is a little cloudy right now but will clear with time. No signs of any stress and a couple of hours after I put the fish back in I feed and everyone ate the same as before.

No it really wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be. All I did was take water out of the tank and put it in a 35 gal rubbermaid container with the fish then drained the rest of the water, removed the rock, put in the sand, added some new water and the water that was in the rubbermaid container, put the fish back in then done. How is your firemouth doing with the angels? I first started with mine in a 10 gal and all it did was hide. I had some of my other fish die in my 46 and threw him and and now he is always in the open right in the middle of the tank.
