I am just wondering where everyone prepares their water for their tank? I was thinking of getting a 26 gallon rubbermaid garbage can, but I am not sure if the material is safe to store water in, or if it may release toxins?

thanks

if your unsure about toxins leaching, just fill it with water and leave for 4 or 5 days first...

rubbermaids work fine
if you use something else that you are worried about, make sure it is "food safe"

i mix each bucket individually in 5 gallon buckets and then carry them up to my room. just use a 5 gallon plastic bucket.

Ive just bought 2 nappy soaking bins because they came with lids, each one holds around 16litres so is enough to do 20% water change for my tank. I need the lids so my dog doesn't drink the water lol!

I use a 50 gallon ruber maid trash can and a pump. Works like a charm and it even came with a lid to keep the dust out.

I use a 26 gallon rubbermaid storage bin. I add the salt and pour the water in and add a pump and a heater and let it mix for a least one hour. Check it and then mix it for another hour. By then the temp is fine and then to put the water in my tank I use plastic water pitchers to pour in and not disturb the sandbed.

I use a 26 gallon rubbermaid storage bin. I add the salt and pour the water in and add a pump and a heater and let it mix for a least one hour.

I do that too except with a slightly larger bin and I let it sit for about a day.

I use a Rio to keep the water circulating and I use the same Rio to shoot the water up through an 8' tube into my tank.

I use the buckets the salt mix originally came in -- if they're good enough to hold the salt, they're good enough to hold the saltwater. I drop in a Maxi-Jet and pump water through a tube into our sump.

I do like 5-7 gallons a week. I have an old Instant Ocean bucket that was the 5 gallon but now with 10% more free or somesuch, so it's a little bigger than 5 gallons. Since I only have a 55 gallon tank, I do one bucket a week. I mix it friday, let it sit till saturday and then do my water change.

Easy as pie. :)
