To make a long story short, after a rough start we were left with two platys that seem to be thriving. We've had them for about two months. (Two other fish--a molly and a swordtail--died almost as soon as we got the platys.) About a month ago we got another swordtail. It died in about a day. Last week we got a cory (we started with one, intending to get a couple more if he did OK.) He seemed to be thriving too, but tonight when I got home, he was dead. 10 gallon tank, amm and nitrite 0, ph 7.6 (too high?). So what is killing our fish?

try doing it more slowly. 1/2 cup - 1 cup every 15 min. for a hour or two. also test the stores water to see what kind of water its coming from.
well i am not sure its hard to say. best way to do things is eliminate as many factors as possible.
After introducing them to the tank, how long are they "thriving" and do you notice any lethargic behavior or an immediate drop off (i.e. 'I came home and he was dead)?
How's you temp? Any signs of injury, illness on the dead fish?
If I had to guess, I would say Mgamer is on the right track. If you have 2 fish that are doing fine, and any additions (and the many of the original additoins) died off, I would also too lean towards an acclimation issue. This can be either at introduction (most common) or something in your water that is off from the LFS water in any large degree -- In the latter case, I would usually suspect pH, but as you hinted at yourself, your pH of 7.6 should certainly be okay...
