Dwarf Hairgrass...

Hi all. A question-I have dwarf hairgrass in my 29 gallon (110 L) tank. It is spreading, but the original blades have been turning brown and dying. So basically its a continuous cycle of it dying and growing. What could be wrong? I have a 40 watt light and blue gravel....those are the only things i could think of that could be wrong-everything else in my tank is normal.

Not enough light, 40 watts is only 1.4 wpg and dwarf hairgrass needs at least 2 plus CO2 really makes it grow fast.
 
more light, mine grows slow @ 3wpg
 
as others said you do need higher light output (at least 2.5 wpg) and also specialized plant gravel such as eco-complete would be idea as dwarf hairgrass are root-based.

But also keep in mind most of the dwarf hairgrass you buy are grown in emersed form (out of water), so when you initially plant them in the water, all the emersed leaves will die off and replaced by their submersed counterparts.
