A very random question, but thats what this is for =]. I am 13, and since I was like 9 or 10 I have been cracking knuckles. Now, if I go a minute or so without doing it my knuckles kill me. I decided to go cold turkey and now they hurt soo much. I have cracked my knuckles without meaning to, subconsciencouly (sp?). How did you all quit?

I wouldn't worry about it. Your main problem here is anxiety caused by worrying about your knuckles. Meditate, focus on something else, and your knuckles won't bother you if you don't crack them, it's psychosomatic.

And don't worry about cracking knuckles giving you arthritis or anything like that. It's just gases being collapsed in one section of your joint, nothing that can hurt you. And they crack naturally during normal activities, just don't force them into unnatural positions just to have them crack. You risk pulling tendons, swelling, and ligaments out of place (this goes for your back, knees, and ankles too).

I think about it this way: Your body has been under development for hundreds of thousands of years through natural selection, and it knows when its being hurt. Every movement you make that has the potential to cause injury is painful. Cracking your knuckles feels good, so it can't be THAT bad for you. It's like yawning and stretching. Plus your joints have a greater more fluid range of motion after you crack them. I crack my spine and knuckles every morning when I wake up and I feel fine :-)

I think its annoying when someone is doing it in public, so I don't do it. I don't care that you do it, just don't do it around me.
