Ich on Ottos

I have ich in my betta tank but with the ottos, I'm worried about how to best treat it. Has anyone had any experience with this, and if so, how did you treat it? I hoped it was just on the betta so he could be moved to a sick tank, but its on the otto's too. Normally I'd raise the temp, add salts and use aquari-sol, but I'm not sure now. Thanks!

I like rid ich+ by Kordon. it's very gentle for a malachite/formalyn medicine and I've used it successfully on 1/2" bristlenose fry with no losses. Otos might be a little more sensitive, but should respond well to it. I wouldn't salt them.

Otos are fine with Rid-Ich+. They don't even show any signs of stress.

I prefer to use the salt and heat method.

If you choose to use the medication, make sure you take any carbon out of your filter or it will filter the medication out of the water ;)

Salt and heat is fine with otos. I would be more concerned with a full strength long term treatment using meds. A good ich treatment will have to last as long as any ich is alive, so easily 2 weeks.

And if any fish has ich in a tank, chances are they all do at least to some degree. So visible signs of ich means it is too late to qt.

After you finish the treatment, make sure to place all new fish in qt prior to introduction to the main tank.

Thanks for the input! As I found out, the ich came from plants. I put in a new green hedge, and didn't know it needed to be quarantined as well as fish. I usually raise temp and salt, so I'll try that and watch to see how the otto's do. That could be all I need. But will it effect the plants at all?

I've heard that it won't, but I've never done it. I'd say that plants are cheap to replace, but I guess so are otos.

And I used the ridich for only a week and it completely wiped out the ich. No spots after day two and no reoccurrance. I also upped the temp to 86 during treatment to speed along the life cycle. I added a powerhead for o2 as well.

In the short term the plants should be okay. You experience a little melt or a few dead leaves but once things go back to normal it should all come back.

Thanks for the info. I turned up the heat to 84 and just used the aquari-sol, the otto's are doing great, the betta on the other hand is acting really odd. I'm not really sure why either. He just lays on top of his thermometer and then will occasionally swim around when I try and see if he's breathing.
