I had an episode of bloat in my African tank. Several L. leulupi and cylindricus died one after another in 2 to 3 weeks time frame from typical bloat symptom. I am waiting for the last sick fish to die off before replacing them. Only specific fish of specific species were affected but all other fish are doing fine, eating well and show no sign of infection. I read conflicting information on whether the desease is contageous and if so, how contageou it is? In my case, it is unlikely the environmental factor because the desease affects only one of several tanks of which I do regular water change the same manner.

Bloat is not contagious, and it is caused by environmental factors. Unfortunately, you do not provide enough data about your various tanks and their inhabitants for anyone to suggest where your problem might be coming from, but I will note that just the fact that you do water changes on them all at the same time doesn't exclude environmental factors as a cause. If you want an answer that has a reasonable chance of being right, we would need to know your GH, KH, pH, temperature, tank size, filtration systems, filter and tank maintenance schedules, tank populations (size and age), water additives, buffers, etc. used, what the water is like coming out of your tap, what you feed and how often, lighting, tank decoration/aquascaping, etc.

Basically, "poor" environmental conditions will cause impairment of a fish's immune system, which then makes it susceptible to infections that normally it would be able to fight off naturally. But environmental conditions can cover a wide range of factors, thus the broad-based need for info mentioned above.
