I posted this over on the salt side, but more people seem to be over here...

has anyone tried to make a large (100gal) cylinder tank?
the 4 grand price tag got my inner DIY hobbist thinking.

thanks!

Maybe a stupid question, but for what purpose? Co2?

I think they are talking about a round shaped aquarium, like those old gasoline pumps that are converted into aqariums. A cool look.

Doh! I guess it WAS a stupid question then. LOL. Was wondering why anyone would need a 100g Co2 tank.

all the cylinder tanks i have seen are not very good because of the low surface area. maybe a oval but it would be hard to make. look at the bow fronts.

Are you talking about a whole cylinder (completely round tank) or a half cylinder which would be more common? I do like the half cylinders but the problem is the severe refraction looking through a curved tank bothers some people.

They design perfectly round cylinder tanks for jellyfish. Square tanks are not good for jellyfish because they get stuck in the corners and on the sides.

. maybe a oval .
That would be cool!
The problem with a bow front ..
is where I want to put it .. it would be scene from both sides.
I'll prolly just end up with a rectangle and have the over flow the corners.

Ahh, you want it viewable from both sides. I'd then go with the 'ol classic rectangular tank. Is this going to be completely exposed or in wall? I assume since your concidering an cylinder tank its not in wall. You may also want to look at putting the oveflows in the center of the tank if you want to be able to see the tank from all sides even the ends. If you happen to be around any location (you dont have your location filled in your profile) that glasscages.com delivers to they will custom make tanks and can do all sorts of overflow options. Take a look at these overflows: http://glasscages.com/?sAction=Overflows

hrmm this might be costly but you could get say 2 50g bow fronts cut the back panes out and sillicone them together. just a thought.

Actually that wouldn't work. You can't get a good enough seal siliconing glass end on end.
