Tiger Oscar

I have a tiger oscar that in every way seems to be healthy happy and has a great appetite. The weird thing is that he only changes in color on the back half of his body. Equally on both ides. I have not had an oscar continually only be able to darken/lighten 1/2 of it's body. I had a picture of him (can't find now) and even the young man who I go to with my ?'s has not seen one do this with such color definition. I am not overly concerned just curious.

what color does he change to?
maybe it is like camoflage does the back half next too something a different color?

Mine does this as well, usually when he is excited by food or another fish or if we stand long enough with our face near the glass. he goes from black to almost a clear green with a solid light orange, but only on his back half.
