I bought a pair of common clownfish today from my LFS, I spent just over an hour acclimatising them before letting them out in to tank but they are staying down in 1 corner at the bottom front of the tank. They are swimming in one spot - is this normal? they don't seem to be breathing hard or struggling in anyway they are just staying in 1 spot
Congratulations! Clowns are great.
Honestly, I've seen so many posts regarding their behavior. They will not act like your other fish, even after they're familiar with your tank. :)
But like any fish, it can take up to a week or two before they start acting "normal." They're still getting used to your water, being netted at least twice in one day, your tank and its surroundings. When first introduced, some fish hide, some pace back and forth, some stay in one area or corner- I'm sure they're still getting familiar with their new home. I wouldn't worry at this point.
Have any pictures?
Edit- you might find this thread a good read for what to possibly expect with your new clowns...

Here are a couple of pics or Krusty and cocoa(names could change yet!) The white bits on one clown in the second picture are sand! They already seem to have different personalities, the larger one when first released went round touching/tasting everything whereas the smaller one just follows every where!:dance2:

Well i must say they look really healthy. Looks like you have some really nice clowns there. I have a pair of Brown Saddleback clowns and they hide most the day. In fact the only time i really see them is around 8:30-10:00 which is around the time i feed the fish and the lights go off at 10 so they are heading to their host coral. Congrats on the new fish.
Oh yeah and just so you will know the sex of the clowns, The small clown would be the male and the larger clown is your female. So with that said hopefully they will become a mated pair in some time.
They look good! Just wait until they get around to their little clown antics- they're pretty amusing fish.

nice clowns, its a good mix how the female seems much darker while the male is more lighter, gets a good contrast

We just got our first pair of fish today (common Perc clowns like yours) We were very excited to see your post--as our fish are acting the same way. We are so relieved to see that this is normal behavior for new tankmates! Good lick with your new fish.

They are adorable. They should develope even more interesting habbits as time goes on. The only bad thing about clowns is you can never tell what "normal" is for them until you have had them for months. For the first two weeks my clown decided to befriend our heater and would never leave. He would rest and nip at it. I thought the poor fishy had gone crazy. Now he likes to explore more and his favorite sleeping spot is the bare bottom corner facing my bed (so he can see if I am going to get up and feed him).

what do you all feed your clowns? My lfs recommended alternating daily between flake and frozen brineshrimp - is this ok assuming they take it?

yes but in addition to that i would use mysis shrimp as the staple rather than brine.
