Java fern roots?

Is it ok to trim off the java fern roots?

You mean those brown fuzzy roots?

I suppose you can, but those are what anchors the plant onto the rock/driftwood it should be placed on so I wouldn't do it.

I always find myself wishing those roots would grow faster so the plant will become permanently fixed in place.

i have them in pots but the roots are growing up the side of the tank

The more the merrier I say. My female betta hides in them...;) It's her favorite place to be...
