:help:

Hello,

It's been a while. I am having a problem with Cyanobacter. I have decreased my lighting to 7hrs per day. My phospate level is 0.05. I have added a Maxi-Jet 1200 powerhead to increase flow in my 30 gallon aquarium. I have scrubed off the cyanobacter from the glass and vacuumed the crushed coral. Is there anything else I should do, or just wait it out ? Thanks

Joe

I'd try decreasing your lights a bit more. I switched mine off for a full 24 hrs then only had them on for 5 hrs a day. Also cut down your feeding a bit. I fed every other day.

have you checked your Nitrates? If not you might want to do that. Also you might want to get rid of the crushed coral in that tank. Crushed coral is a big no no in Saltwater. The main causes of Cyano Bacteria "Red Slime Algae" are as follows;

1. Lighting (lights should only be on for around 8-9 hours a day, or the bulbs need to be replaced)

2. High nutrient levels (caused from over feeding the tank mostly or the use of Tap water)

3. Poor current in the tank (without the proper current in the tank you could have "dead" spots created in the tank. These dead spots give the Nutrients a place to settle and in turn feed algaes you dont want.)

A buddy of mine had this problem a couple of months ago when he upgraded his tank size. He added more intense flow and eventually it just went away (he also overfeeds but happens to have a phenomenal clean-up crew). :rolleyes:
