I have had this angel for about 3 weeks. He is about the size of a quarter and is doing well, eating and swimming just fine. No signs of any problems except...the day before yesterday, he managed to slip himself between the gravel and a fake rock. He could get in and out and when out, seemed fine. I haven't seen him do it again. Has anyone ever seen this?

Mine do this every once in a while. I have a tree stump in the tank with about 2 inches of clearance underneath. They will lay on their side and swim through, since they are about 5 inches tip to tip. Cool to watch. IME I'd say it's normal.

Yep. Most any fish I've seen will do its best to check out areas you would think they could not get into.

I agree ^^^^
Despite their extreme vertical, Angels are actually quite agile swimmers. Mine swim in all kinds of angles to get through plants, driftwood etc.. They're very cool to watch! :)

I know your question has been answered, but let me add a yes to that. I see my Angels do this. They are agile swimmers as someone said. I have a lot of plants and driftwood in my tank, and watching them manuver through it is a kick. They seem to like it, and I enjoy the show.
