I notice that there are a lot of questions about adding rock to an already established system and most replies state add it slowly so as not to start a cycle. It has also been mentioned that it's not too bad if it's cured rock. This is just a word of warning from my own experience:

My tank has been going for nearly three years. It has a mixture of live rock and ocean rock. The other day I took all my rock out to re-arrange it and then put it back in. I've now had a massive ammonia and nitrate spike. It's getting under control now and so far I've not had any fatalities.

I just wanted to mention this so that no-one else has the same problems as me:eek:

some invertebrate die in contact with air like sponges

yea a few things can die off when doing that. also u kick up a lot of much from under the live rock. im sry to hear that hope u didnt loose anything.

So far so good!! I also removed a third of the sand which probably didn't help!!! I've always said I learn from my mistakes and I won't be going through that again in a hurry. Just hope it stops someone making the same mistakes as me!!!

I'm also glad it didn't harm your inhabitants. :)

Yeah I think stirring up the settled and established sand had a large part to do with it.
