I had a brain fart today at work. On my 90 gallon tank i have a Amiracle 150 wet/dry and soon I will have a new Filstar XP3, I had a Fluval 404 before. Ever since my fluval leaked I have only had the Wet/Dry running and I can really see that the tank needs the extra filtration! One thing i hate is the overflow on my wet/dry and I wonder if it is possible to bypass it all together? I was thinking of using the inlet from the XP3 and shoot the outlet of the canister to the inlet of the wet/dry and then the outlet of the we/dry out to the tank. What do you think, will it work?
I can't quite follow your proposed setup - do you mean to have the canister intake in the tank, the canister output fed to the W/D, then normal W/D return to the tank?
If so, it is a very bad idea. When the power is off, water from the tank will passively siphon through the canister to the W/D and flood the house. W/D overflows are called that on purpose, they only function when the display is filling and filled beyond the overflow level of the W/D intake. In power off situations, there is no flood.
