I was wondering if you could recommend some cichlids that can survive colder waters, I have a pond outside. I hear people tell me to start with Texas Cichlids then maybe Gymogeo's.
It gets around 60 degrees during the winter.
Anyone have any stories?

Doesn't the Rio Grande get colder than 68 in the winter? I think Texas can handle cooler waters than that. Also, there are Geophagine species that can handle the cold - check www.fishbase.org

Gymnogeophagus balzani and other 'Geos' from subtropical climates are cold hardy and in fact, 'need' a period of cooler water during the winter in order to thrive.
