My angel has not been able to swim for a couple months now. I kept thinking that it would get better but it hasnt. He is unable to swim and just lays at the bottom of the tank. He is able to swim for short distances and picks up food off the bottom but ends up on his side withing seconds. His belly is a little sunken in but other than that he looks healthy. Nitrates 0 Amonia 0 Nitrates 10-20. I think he has a swim bladder problem but am not certain. Here is a picture http://img65.imageshack.us/img65/342/dscf0032tr6.jpg

If he hasn't been able to swim for a couple of months, I too would call it a swim bladder problem, if that is the case, its doubtful there is anything you can do for him :(

I have had this same problem...have euthaznied three for this. I believe it is somehow stress related. I have a fourth one that I moved because he was getting picked on in my 75 g tank, I put him in my 37 g tank with some buenos aires tetras. H has not been right since and has steadily worsened. I keep hoping he will get better, but if not I will euthanize him as well.

The first one that "went down" could swim for short distances, looked excellent, and would even eat on its side. When I went to net him out to euthanize..he swam like he was fine...

I have tried treatemnt with maracyn 2 and tetracylcine. Neither helped at all. My conclusion was that it was a bacterial infection of the swim bladder, or possibly something viral since 4 of my angels have gotten it. I really don't know what cased it..but I do know that I could't watch the fish suffer anymore so I did what was best for them.

Wow, it's amazing he's lived a couple months laying on his side all day. Strange....

Seen that a few times in angels, varying ages, water always checked good. No treatment I tried worked. Sorry, no help.
