hi,

can any body identifiy why my star fish is looking ill?

i have had my comet sea starfish for about 7 months, and has been a happy chappie.
i looked at him today though, and he has got what looks like rips in his skin.
(pink fleshy bits are all over one of his legs)

here is a pic of him, its an old pic though ( his looking well on this pic, but its so you know what type of starfish im talking about)

this has never happened before.

any suggestions?

could we have more information? Water params, other fish in tank etc

yes that would help....also thats a Linckia star...but i have heard them be called comets.
looks like malnutrition to me its very common they rarely get enough to eat in aquariums. try to give it some dried algae or cockle maybe..

Half a silverside soaked in garlic would also do him well

Your params. are your water test results.

hi germanman.

hows you today?

the starfish i have is aparently known by 3 diffrent names,
linckia sea starfish, comet sea starfish or blue sea starfish.
i found out the names off of doctors foster and smith. ;)

how to i feed it the stuff you said in last msg.

also they say that its diet is: omnivore. what is this?

thanks clare :)

omnivore means it eats both meant and plant matter. im do good as well. thanks for asking. and as jojo say parameters are the results of ur water tests. like ammonia, nitrate, ph etc...

thanks jojo

hi, musho3210

i only have the esha aqua quick test strips at the moment, im trying to save up for the proper test kit, salivert is it? iv been told its the most accurtae,
"in england that is" :)

the test strip is coming out as

no3: 25
no2: 0
gh/dt/th: >21
kh/tac/carbonate hardness: 10
ph: in between 7,6 - 8,0

i have had a few problems with the no3 being to high, but its ok now.
and had problems with ph im still trying to get it a little higher as you can see by test results. im using ph plus (by JBL)

you are going to want to get some liquid test kits. and if ur ph is below 8.0 ur not in good shape.
