Today I visted the LFS. I went in ecspecting to buy a 55 but I thought about it, and honostly I dont think I ready finacially and just mentally for the 55g. I Purchased at an amazing deal 30 Gal Tank, glass cover, and verryyy nice stand for 130$ !! Now for the lighting I purchased I cant recall the ecsact name but it sales online for 200 and i got it for 140 :) so I ened spendeing 290 on the basics. Tommrow I set out to purchase the Salt ( need suggestions) and the Sand ( need suggestion) . O yes from petsmart i picked up the seaclone 150 that sells online for 120 aprox for 60 $ :). I know its not top quality but thats what returns are for :). I am looking forward to start a log on the forums hopefully in a week.

salt - reef crystals
sand - sugar grade aragonite (do not use crushed coral)

if you are doing water changes, no need for supplements if levels are correct, the salt should have all of the supplements needed. Of course if calcium levels drop add some calcium etc

thanks musho ill keep you and the rest updated

to break in my skimmer whould it be alright yo fill up a buck and let it do its thing till i get everything running or is it not worth my time :)

DITCH THE GLASS TOP!!!

Also since a 30 is generaly considered a nano you might be reading up on nano's just to learn about the problems that are more prone with them, 30 is the largest tank in the nano range but is still more dificult than a 55

My guess is Jojo is recommending to loose the glass top because it raises the temperature and makes it harder to keep the tank cool, gets covered with salt creep and requires frequent cleaning and diminishes the PAR output of your lights.

Nothing, you will be fine without a top, just keep up on your water top offs.
