I got one panda cory and one spotted cory for my 28g bowfront. The spotted cory is doing great and swimming all over the place and eating and such. Im thinking that my panda cory is hiding from three leopard danios who nip his tailfins. Will getting two more corys solve the problem or will we just end up with three corys with nipped tailfins? We have another 29g tank we could put him in because that doesn't happen there. Thanks for your help.

if the danios are nipping the corytdoras, adding more corydoras will not solve the problem. you will need to add more danios to the tank to help keep them focused on each other. then, once they stop nipping the other fish in the tank, you can get two more pandas and two more spotted corydoras.

Thank you. That helps a lot for when we go to the fish store.

I have a love-hate thing for danios myself. The only way they don't become outrageous bullies is if I have 10 or more of them. The minute I had one die on me, the bullying began. They do still eat so much food they bloat into little round balls before the cories get so much as a bite. And I have a lot of cories in my 40 gallon, so that's saying something!

Hi,

I have five Danios and they only pick on each other. I did have 7, but well, what can I say, Convicts.;)

Just get more Danios, or return the Danios you have. Either way should work.

i have a 29 gal tank with 4 small panda corys. I found the only way to let the panda have enough food is to feed them sinking wafers after lights out in several areas of the tank. @ of them a larger than the others, and the smaller ones hide more. Do males hide more so than females?

CoryKid,
I agree w/ JM1212 and Cory Lover -- More danios to keep them distracted or remove the danios; and you could easily get more Corys ;)

jmj,
I have 4 species of Cory's (Spotted, Green-Golds, Schwatrzi, and Julies and had Bronze Albinos), and I can reaaly say that IME they all have VERY different behaviors! :)

Obviously I love these guys, but I have never seen a Panda in person so I cannot speak to thier bahvior specifically; However, I would be suprised if the larger adults were bullying a smaller juvy (or females bullying the smaller males)...?

I have noticed 2 things w/ my juvies: 1) They hardly eat anything near what they adults do (1/2 pellet or less vs. 1+ for the adults each day) and 2) the juvies tend to climb all over the adults especially during feeding and it isn't until things have settled a bit befire they start to feed as well. I am able to observe them feeding, so I know they are fine, and I have never heard of a Cory even caring about another fish nevermind showing aggression towards one of their own. -- They are kind of in their own little world it seems -- :D

IME Panda cories do best in groups of atleast 3. A lone Panda isn't going to be very active. Get a few more and its behavior should change.

I also agree that you should get more Danios to hopefully keep their aggression to themselves.
