My fiance asked me if you could just put the eggs in the display tank, and the residents would just eat them when they hatched. Would that work?

DO NOT PUT CYSTS IN ANY DISPLAY TANK!
Cysts have been know to harbour harmful bacteria that sometimes wipe out a tank at worst case scenario. Also, the cysts can lodge in the digestive tract of some fish.
Don't let the hatching water come in contact with your tank water, and rinse the brine in fresh water before putting them into your tank.
