One of my discus seems to bloat or somthing like bloat. It has a huge stomach, and everytime it trys to swim he FLOATS back up. When he reaches the top he is upside down with his belly out of the water.

Can anyone help me please and i need help immediatley. I don't want him to die :'(.

Umm the other fish in the tank are:
angels discus
bristle nose pleco
guppys mollies
gouramis rams
and some other tetras.

The tank is a 6ft x 2ft x 2ft.
The only new things added to the tank were plants which we got yesty.

All other fish seem to be fine.

The paramates are:
4,o pm on focfate (unsure of spelling sorry it my dads tank)
6.5 on Ph.

Sorry im an unsure of other paramates, it my dads tank he does all the testing.

Ohh and yesty they were eating black worms and frozen blood worms. Do you think these would have caused internal complications, or somthing else . . .

Thanks all . . . . .

you'll need to get parameter measuring ammonia, nitrite and nitrates

how long has this tank been set up? what is the water change schedule?

discus are carnivorous and they do fins on a high protein diet.

I feed mine blood worms, mysis and brine shrimp as well as flake and pellets..they also will consume algae tabs. what do you keep the tank temp at..sounds like this discus in severe stress.

"Umm the other fish in the tank are:

the tank mates are not typically what you would see in a tank with discus..discus prefer and do better in warm water 84-86 degree f

the rams, some tetras(cardinals and black neons) angels and BN can do okay in a discus set up but..stress here that angels carry parasites that can infect discus..if you plan on keeping angels with discus..the angels need to be in quarantine and treated for parasites.
some say it's a bad combo..but I have done it with no issues. i know very well versed professionals that keep angels with discus..with no big issues.

(my dad tested them last night but can't seem to remember since he does 2 tanks, and he is worried that he will give me the wrong results for this tank. But he does remember them being fine, other wise he would have done more n more water changes but didn't)

amonie ; ok
nitrite: ok
nitrates: ok

This tank has been set up for about a year. The angels were in the tank before the discus, and my angels show no physical signs of infection or parasites. There are also 6 other discus in th etank with the bloaty one.

The water changes consists of 25% fortnightly. We changed the water last night also.

The temperature is 84.3 F, so i think this is ok for discus temps.

The angels don't have a big issue with the discus, well the discus do out number the discus by 7:2 - discus: angels. And none of the other fish show great threat to them either and never have any sort of dramas or complications.

well, it didn't die. He is swimming quite ok with all the others. The bloat seems to be a thing of the past for him. And we can't come across any eggs well maybe the angels ate em lol. Thanks to all who read and helped in this thread. I'm quite happy that he is okai.

I'm no discus expert, but this sounds like pretty low maintenance for a discus tank.

yes live black worms, could this be bad ?

The tank is a 158 gallon though. And we vac the gravel, change the water, clean the internal filter, test the water. And this was the first problem we have had with any fish for about 9 months. . .

Should he do more water changes or more water when he does changes ????

:bday: people say you should do water changes daily for discus.. but tahts for fast growth and other stuff... th discus might have truly been bloated from the blackworms. but as long as he is ok then your ok

well yesty avo he seemed to look better, after we done the extra gravel vac. And this morning when we saw him he look healthy as ! So i tihnk he made a good recovery. . . .

I think we might do some research on the blackworms just to see if they cause any internal complications >

Thanks all, who pitched in and helped :)
