Howdy-
Used my tax refund today and bought 2X Filstar XP3's for my two 55 gallon tanks. Got the first one fitted to my JD tank-quiet!

Was going to put the other on the Angel tank, but ran into a problem-maybe. Instructions say the top of the water should be 24" above the top of the filter, tank is on the bottom level of my stand (got the 29 and 20 up top), top of tank is 24" above floor level-which will give 10 inches to th top of the filter.

I'm assuming the height limitation is to ensure a good head to the siphon going to the filter. Would I run into major problems with only a 10 inch head?

Like the filter! Only drawbacks is that it is too tall to fit under the stand for the JD tank (got it sitting to the side) and the butt-ugly color color (sky blue) of the intake pipes in the tank-sticks out like a boil on the butt of Venus d milo! Nothing that some Krylon Fusion would fix!

Anyway, should I unpack the second Filstar and try it or return to Petsmart and order a Magnum 350 (which according to the PDF instructions online isn't as critical in filter/tank height)

Oh-thank goodness for the PetSmart price match! $179 filters for $104!

Took the XP3 that was on the JD tank and put on the Angel tank-seems to work great!

Other XP3 is on the JD now.

Lots of water flow; more than the 2X Penguin 350's I had on each of the tanks. Only running one on each tank now; cut up the old filter elements and put in the middle basket along with some Seachem Matrix for the bio. Will remove the other Penguins in a couple three weeks, should be enough time to seed the Matrix.
