Hi,

I've got an albino Cory that is going nuts laying eggs on the sides of my 10 gallon tank. That's great - but the eggs are gone in five minutes - lunch for the others. I've tried scraping some off of the sides and putting them in a little floating isolation tank. The eggs just sat there for two weeks, and finally dissolved. I haven't seen any fry at any time.

How long does it take for them to hatch ?
When I see her in action, should I scoop her up and put her in the isolation tank until she's done ?
What's the proper way to handle this situation ?

Thanks !

I think that cories are external fertilizers, meaning the male needs to be around for the egg laying process. Most advise removing the parents and having just the eggs in an established aquarium, since the fry won't be able to eat many of the foods you could raise and offer. There are some good articles on Plant Catfish (look in Shane's world).

I have about 20 Cory sterbai in my rearing tank (5.5 G).
When I do a large waterchange with cooler water, my cories lay eggs. The females carries the eggs between her fins and attaches them to either the glass or to plants. While searching for a place to lay the eggs, the male is constantly following the female. After laying the eggs the female fertilizes the eggs by getting sperm from the male's anus area.
If you have a species tank you're fine.
I have a community tank so I carefully scrape the eggs off the glass with a razor blade or cut off the leaves with eggs and put them in my rearing tank. Now you just have to wait for the cories to hatch, about 4 to 6 days.
Feeding is very easy. I get a portion of live tubifex worms, clean them and throw them in the tank. They will instantly form a kind of ball from which the cory babies will eat. I don't feed anything else, since uneaten food will foul the water rather quickly. Although the live tubifex won't foul the water, I change about 25 - 50% of the water every other day.
Hope this helps and good luck.

Remove the pair and remove all the other fish (or remove the eggs post-fertilization, but that's a lot harder to do) as Cory fry are good food...

They take infusoria as a first food, so established aquaria are a must, as OG stated.
