Placing Corals???

I'm not getting any corals for a while, probably a long while, but i was wondering when you guys pick your spots ... besides lighting, what other factors do you consider?

I've seen alot of your tanks and they look so good with all the different types of corals. Alot of them are close together. Did some of you put small corals far apart and they grew closer together or do you place them right next to eachother?

Does the rock surface where you place the coral have to be flat?
Can it be put on an angle?

Alot of questions, i know, but it's fun to plan out or imagine what your tank will and can look like, but in my case i'm not sure my rocks are set up to host beautiful corals in a way some of your tanks are set up.
 
Well light and water flow are important factors.

Depending on the coral and growth rate and feeder/tentacle length helps with how much space you need between them. if you use an epoxy you can attach frags/frags on rubble with reef epoxy the angle doesn't usually matter, some attach with superglue. Others like to drill a small hole in the rubble that the frag came on and stick a small acrylic rod in that hole with just a little rod sticking out, that peice of rod is then hooked into a crevice in the rock.

All depends on the situation.
 
You know... I feel so stupid right now. When I had my groupers, I got so pissed off when they knocked over some rocks that I spent HOURS putting together.

So... just to make sure I'm on the right track here (and to help NapoliNewJersey out as well)....

  1. Get some AquaStik Underwater Epoxy
  2. Get your live rocks, corals, etc in the position you want them in.
  3. Put some AquaStik stuff between the two items (can be done underwater!)
  4. Done.
It's that easy huh? How hard is it to break apart if I wanted to redo my aquascaping?
 
or just give you aquascape the wiggle test.. you grab a hold of a point on your rocks and give it a good wiggle... if your heart jumps then its not stable enough.. if you have the urge to wiggle a bit harder then its pretty well put together... just remember that the rocks are your puzzle pieces and you put them together...



corals on the otherhand are a bit more tricky if they have a rock anchored to them.. other than that most corals and be stuck into a hole or crack and if they dont stay for a while then its not a good place to put them... epoxy works but its not that great on the looks.. but coraline algae will grow over it so. :/... its really just place and pray..
 
HA get it right the first time bud, depending on the brand of epoxy it can be near impossible to break. Epoxy is mosly for frag rocks and sps frags. I have seen people drill small holes in live rock and use the acrylic rod method or just run little plastic zip ties thru them, won't see them once the coraline takes hold!!
