View Full Version : easiest live food?

I have a tank with angels and rummynose tetras. They certainly appreciated the brine shrimp I brought home yesterday, so I am entertaining thoughts of a live food culture. After reading WetmanNY's excellent summary at The Skeptical Aquarist, there does not seem to be too many easy choices for my limiting situation*. I am considering grindal worms or maybe black worms, something sizeable enough to satisfy a growing angel. They love the frozen and freeze dried bloodworms they get now.

* The catch to all of this is that my tank is in an office so something inconspicuous inside the cabinet is my best chance of raising something. Having fruit flies zooming around the office would probably be considered bad form. :) There is a fridge here but I doubt a tray of blackworms in there would be too welcome. People shuffle stuff around the fridge a lot besides. Maybe I should get a small dorm-room sized fridge?

So, any ideas? Should I just stick to frozen and flake foods?

Can't really recommend something that can be easily cultured in the office. You would be better off culturing at home and bringing in a small amount for a single feeding.

Personally, I am content to purchase the occassionaly live treat for my fish. I've tried the culturing, and with the exception of vinegar eels and micro worms, most require attention that I would rather focus on my tanks. JMO!
