Is it Crushed Coral or Human Error?

I mentioned an earlier blog about Crushed Coral being a problem to a friend that has used it as a substrate for many years with no problems and this is what he said;

"That's why I keep star fish and sea cucumbers in my tank to keep detritus down! It also helps to keep chunks of food from settling on the Crush Coral substrate for long periods of time. A once over with my Python every now and again helps keep my tank healthy and clean. . ."

So my question is wheter or not Crushed Coral the problem or is Human Error to blame. According to my friend he says Human Error and added;

". . .wow people will blame everything but themselves in this hobby sometimes . ." :huh:
 
Yeah, some people may make it a few or quite a few years with CC but in the end it will cause a crash 99% of the time, but ofcorse there is alway an exception to the rule.
 
detrius cleaners are all well and good when they can get to all areas...what happend to the area's hidden by rock that nothing can get too? food will still settle there, detrius will get trapped and then you still eventually end up with a high nitrate count...not everywhere in the tank is going to be accesable to cleaners....

just my opinion.....so, i would not say human error....

NAH to many people have problems with CC and do fine with sand, I still say the CC is:devil:
 
Gravel versus Crushed Coral

I have 2 Freshwater tanks using Shallow Creek gravel. How would this differ from Crushed Coral?

Plain and simple "HE IS THE EXCEPTION TO THE RULE" CC does not usually do well. the benifits of a sand bed far out weigh the drawbacks of CC. This conversation could go on forever, you obviously came here for some type of debate as all your posts are claiming thing that are first of all in your friends tank, not yours, and second of all very very seldom work. You got your answers so why keep on???

BTW that python is far to large to fit inbetween rocks and the CC which is usually the problem area, stars and cucumbers don't fit in there either.
