I'm looking to add a fish to my 55 gallon. I currently have a yellow tang, blue spottted toby, and 4 chromis. I'm looking for something a little different for my tank and would like suggestions from you all.
Some of the characteristics I'm looking for in a fish are as follows:
1.) Some aggressiveness is okay but don't want it to terrorize the other fish
2.) Want a fish that will be visible sometime and won't hide.
3.) Don't care if it is a fish that swims more or perches on the rocks as long as he/she/it has some personality.
If anyone has any suggestions or ideas, let me know.

I think a clown fish fits your list. My clowns have tons of personality and are always visible. They only time they get agressive is if someone gets to close to the BTA.

A wrasse or a blenny would be a good fit as well. Perhaps a sixline wrasse, lawnmower blenny, bi-color blenny or midas blenny?

I agree with a clownfish. I love both of mine, they are so much fun to watch as well. Probably better in a pair though, as they seem less shy and swim about together.

Can any of you recommend one of the clownfish species? I want to stay away from the Oscellaris and Percula since they seem to predominate. I would like to be a little different.

As far as the clowns go, here is a link which lists a few of the different species of clowns..

I'm having a problem choosing between the clowns, mainly because I'm getting some conflicting information.
For example, I thought I would get a clarkii clown since they are kind of different and you don't see them as often as the other clowns. I asked my LFS lady about one and she said that one she's had for a while was really aggressive. I don't know if that is true or not of all clarkiis or if that one is an aberration.
I then looked at maroon clowns but my reference book said that they are one of the most aggressive clowns.
I don't mind getting a clown as long as it is different from and Osceallaris or Percula but I just can't decide which one.

The two types I would stay away from Maroon and Tomatos. They are the vampires of the Clown fish world. A bit more aggressive and tend to attack owner's hands when they are placed in the tank. But I found this to be after they have been established in the tank for a few months and feel that this is their home.

Does anyone have any bad stories about Clarkii clowns? I think I'm leaning in that direction.
