I posted earlier about a 29gal well it is cycled and only has a few barbs in it that i used for cycling still. I am moving in to a town house in a few weeks and have room to go bigger. At my lfs they have alot of 55s. I will use water, rocks, filter media etc..from my 29 to help cycle my new tank. I just dont know what to stock? what are my options i have always wanted a jack dempsey.
can i get something like:
1 jd
1con
1firemouth
some targets and deithers like barbs and silver dollars/giant dianos
if that is to much i will cut out 1 con or firemouth

some one else told me to get a jd and a acara i dont know i would like a few deithers and targets for aggresion and also to add alittle more life. the top choice is what iwould like any help will be appreciated thanks:huh:

You might get away with it; it's a close call, and a lot depends on their temperament (mostly that of the dempsey). You don't want the silver dollars; they'll get too big. Barbs will work unless the dempsey decides they're food (growing up with them would help; that also goes for improving your chances with your cichlid choices). Giant danios have the advantage of staying up high; an area which is often empty.

I gotta add one thing... Acara looks too much like the JD and the JD is NOT gonna like this... take it from my BAD experience your acara wont make it... One fish i found that is very compatible with JD is jaguar... 55 may be a lil small though...

I think i like th jd,con, and fire thats what i will plan on if everyone thinks it might work so forget deithers completly then
i think it is to small for a jag

i have read past threads posted on this site and people are stocking more than i am. Is there a diffrent cichlid i could pick instead of a firemouth that would work. and would that be my max?

You can't go real big with a 55g. Your jd is going to get pretty big, so another big fish is pushing things. I think if you want three fish, you already have a good combination, and substituting for the firemouth is iffy. MAYBE, if you're lucky, MAYBE, a female salvini, but you might have to lose the convict if everyone gets aggressive.
