I heard that if you have enough LR in your tank that you dont need any kind of filter if so i was woundering if i get a 30 gallon tank is 40 pounds of LR good or do i still need the filter if so please tell me .....................

you will need a skimmer, and water flow!!

Thats enough live rock but like it has been said a skimmer acts like the waves and creates a foam that clears your tank of harmful things something the LR cannot do. And keep some power heads may 2 to create a current for the water to be cleaned by the LR. Just like any filter the water has to travel past the media :)

Yea well about that whick would a good begginer cheap skimmer cuz as you can see im on a budget and also are there hang ons .........

Next Quetion...

Should i go with all LS or have LS and something else if so what can be good and yes i am going to keep 2 maxi jet 900's or is stronger better please help a rookie out will appreciate it.

Will let the people in the US comment about skimmers...they are different where i am...

Live sand...Dont waste your money on it...Use aragonite sugar grade sand, and get a few cups of live sand from a local reefer or lfs and mix it into the new sandbed...it will seed the bed over time...

what size tank is it? also you can always make your own skimmer. also you dont NEED to have a skimmer as long as you have adaquate water flow and filtration. I dont run one and my water quality is fine. I guess its just user prefference hope that helps

Well, protein skimmer price in US can range from 40 bucks to serveral hundreds. I definitely wouldn't go for the lowest grade. In my opinion, it's not necessarily that the cheaper ones will not work. I actually have an experience of seeing some unbelievable results from cheaper units. The problem is that, the cheaper units will not last you very long. No matter how well you try to take care of it, the plastic parts will crack... and things will start to leak...

If anything, I would at least look to spend 100+ on skimmers. That's just my opinion. good luck.
