At my LFS they have fish named Christatus jewel with I believe are the same as cristatus. I am looking for some first hand info on these fish if possible. I'm sure they are aggressive but will they get along with a rosy barb and a rainbow shark? Any other info like size, temperment or anything else you can think of would be appreciated.

In a word, no.

The jewel cichlid is familiar to most freshwater aquarists as one of the most colourful fish available. Along with these bright colours, however, comes a fearsome reputation as one of the most aggressive cichlids for its size. This reputation, coupled with the surge of popularity of the cichlids of the rift lakes, has led to the decline in popularity of this group of fishes.
PS - is your tank large enough for a Rainbow shark?

Thanks for the replies, I kinda figured that it would be a bad combination. My rainbow is in a 46g and is about 6in so I believe he has lots of room?

These are two of my Jewels, which just had there first brood of littleones.I noticed that a bulb had went out and was changing it when I found out I now have almost 100 new free swiming fry in my 70 gal. was a great surprise. This is also my first time breeding Cichlids. As for agressive! the are the only fish in the tank. All others had to be removed.

I had a jewel once... wasn't very aggressive. Held its own, but it didn't run the tank or anything.
They have a nasty reputation though.

I've been wanting to get one but was told they're really aggressive. But then I've seen others here say they aren't that bad.
