Hi, my name is Annemarie and after 20 years of being out of the water, it seems time to jump back in. I used to run a 36g freshwater community tank, but it seems the cichlids have won my interest again, I have always loved their personalities even though they harrassed and ate my smaller fish. I am just in the process of procuring a 120g and before I make the mistake of jumping in and setting it up poorly, I would like to make a background for it. I have followed the links to the basic styrofoam backgrounds but I happened to stumble on one late last night onmy sons computer that was made from liquid tank liner and saran wrap over a styrofoam base, the finished piece peeled off and was flexible and the form could be used again. I LOST THE LINK!!! Does anyone out there know of what I speak?? Can any one help me?

I think that there will be many more questions coming from me in the future as I attempt to enter the realm of Lake Malawai. Thankx in advance if you can help me. if not I just have to keep on surfing. :help:

Have you tried to go into the browsers history? That should give you all the web sites you've been to in the last few days.

Good sites you'll find for Malawi information is malawimayhem.com, cichlid-forum.com, and of course the cichlid forum on this board.

I got a background made of styrofoam that actually goes on the outside of the tank. People can't tell if it's inside or outside, and is amazingly cheaper and easier to do yourself.

You basically just get a sheet of styrofoam and heat it to make all kinds of rocky-looking shapes then you spray paint it rocky-looking colours.

I can find out more about this process if you'd like.

I'm not sure of the link you are looking for, but here is another type of DIY background used in an African tank. It looks really nice in the tank and even provides some extra hiding spots for fish: http://www.duboisi.com/diy/BNdiygrotto/bndiygrotto.htm. I can just imagine trying to get a fish out of there for some reason....would be a nightmare.
