I have been told both are effective, and I was just wondering what everyone else thought about this topic. I also know everyone disagres with how long to fresh water dip. So if you have any thoughts let me know

QT hands down less stress and much safer IMO!! I would NEVER dip my fish.

A QT or a combo of both. With the QT you can get to know your fish and its behavior. You can see what it likes to eat without others crowding around it trying to gobble up the food. You can look at it closely so you can realize later on if there are any new markings, etc. Lastly, if your new fish comes down with a parasite or problem, you can treat and watch it in your QT and not risk it possibly spreading to all of the others in your main tank.

I know lots of people don't QT their fish but what does hand-picking them have to do with QTing? QTing is highly recommended by experts for multiple reasons, and is just a simple and good habit and way to practice decent husbandry.
