Help Quick!!!!!!!

Hey All,
My sister just called me with a fish problem. I'm more of a freshwater person myself, but she is having trouble. She bought Meridith Angle. I think that's the name. Anyways I guess I hasn't been eating since she got it the other day, and now it's up against the side of the tank breathing really heavy, and not moving much. To me it sounds like it is a little to late, but is there any thing I can tell her to help her out. he dosen't know the perameters of the tank but all the other fish are alright. She also said there are no signs of ick or anything like that.

Listlessness and rapid breathing are signs of Ich, sure enough, but they are also signs of ammonia poisoning. If the biofilter in her tank has been functioning great for the current fish stock for a while, then the addition of a new fish could have caused an ammonia spike. Tell her to buy a testing kit and see what her parameters are, and to do an immediate 20% water change.

Never heard of a Merideth Angel, are you sure it is not a Majestic? If so, it was a very poor choice in angels especially if she does not know angels. Angels and Butterflies are the hardest sw fish to keep alive and thrive in captivity. Majestics do not fare well for anyone other than advanced aquariusts. If the tank is newly setup the Angel is doomed. They need a very well established tank to have any chance of survival. What is your sister trying to feed? Angels (esp Majestics, Imperators, etc) feed mainly on sponges, algae, etc. Feed Frozen Angel Formula by Ocean Nutrition along with Formula One, Formula Two, VHP-Very High Protein- won't hurt either. I just recently got a changing Imperator that only eats sheets of algae by Julian Sprung right now. At first (first two days) she wouldn't eat anything, now something is better than nothing. BTW, how much circulation does your sister have? They need TONS of filtration and current. Hope this helps and hope the angel makes it.
