yeahhh....well its been about a week and the ammonia is at 8 (is this normal)and now whats the next steps??

anyway my question is that my water is cloudy...is this normal?.....i used my old gravel from an old tank that i dont use anymore, i think i did a poor job at cleaning the gravel....but if it was dirt shouldnt all that have settled by now??

should i do a water change??

Are you sure it's 8??
If so, cut down on your adding ammonia.
Gravel vac, and do about a 50% water change.

Ammonia levels at 8ppm and beyond impede the speed of the cycling process.I recommend doing a water change (30%?) to lower it. If the gravel has been sitting around for a while (several months?) then the cloudiness is prolly due to accumulated dirt/dust. It could also be a bacterial bloom - not a bad thing.

i would do a 40-50% water change to get the ammonia down to 4-5ppm. 8 is a little too high.
