Hi,

I am new to this hobby and have been trying to learn quickly. I have 3 tanks 5G, 20G and 46G. In my 46 I have 6 Harlequin Rasbora, one of whom I noticed today has what appears to be white fuzz on his left eye?!? I have never lost any fish or dealt with any diseases before...Right now this is who lives in my tanks...

5-male betta

20-7 neon tetra
3 dwarf gourami

46-3 ottocinclus
6 harlequin rasbora
2 upside down cats
3 smallish angels

Any help would be greatly appreciated-thank you :)

Try looking at the disease area of www.skepticalaquarist.com and see if you find what you need...

How long has your tank been up and running? How long have you had the fish in the tank?

It sounds a bit like a fungus, but without a picture or a little more detail it's hard to say. It's also possible that something has nipped him... like I said, kinda hard without a little more information....

(Sorry to hound you for answers....)

Bye the way, Welcome!

Thank you :)

Last night, I visited a good LFS in the are and explained everything. I'm treating with Maracyn and a temperature increase to 82 degrees.

Hopefully all will go well :)

If it's "fungus" it's not that contagious. The spores of Saprolegnia are already everywhere in natural waters and in aquaria. A fish that's going to have some damaged tissue attacked by Saprolegnia is much more likely to pick up a spore by nibbling in the gravel. There's no direct transmission through contact; it's all infection from spores...
