I just bought two of these fish, and the guy at the store told me they're part of the trout family, but little else... my question is, what other fish can I put with these two (30 gallon tank 7.0ph) that they won't kill/be killed by? and any other info about these fish would be great... there's no info on the net that I've found so far... thanks!

The guy at the store was incorrect: they are Cyprinids, and not Salmonids.
Google "Copper-Nosed Minnow" as Barilius christyi is also known as that.
Good luck and hope this helps.

You could also try Googling Opsaridium christyi, as this is the newer scientific name. They same to be from Tanganyika (or some Barilius are found there), so conditions similar to those of Tanganyika would likely be for the best...I'd lower the temp a little bit, but do so gradually!

Opsaridium christyi Info from Baensch
pH: about 7
Temp: 72-75 F
Size 6 inches or so
Soft Water
Habitat: Africa, N. Ghana
Breeding has been unsucessful, more info is in Baensch Book 1, pg 404. Might be able to get it tomorrow, depending on if I remember while at work.
More info: http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/SpeciesSummary.cfm?ID=11603
For more info you'll want to find out its sci name.

your website was also very informative... they seem to be doing well, and they're very active, which is nice considering my other tank is all community fish and they are all pretty lazy... their scientific name is "barilius pulchellus" and I did find some info on them, but it seems like I'm destined to do trial and error with any tankmates I add in the future... thanks again

the store said I was the only one who bought any of them, but they've been great so far... am still hoping to run across someone who knows what other fish I might put in a tank with these that they won't kill each other...
