I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find it....

Do you need filtration in a heavily planted tank that has no fish or other macroscopic critters?

i would still employ a small HOB, as rotting plant particles could be your 'bio-load'.

No fish or macro creatures? Then no not needed. But with a bit of current the water could get stagnent. And if you fertilize the tank a slight current will help move those nutrients around better. You could look at just an internal small filter to make a current like the fluval internal power filters or a powerhead.
