Hello,

Just wondering if anyone that has Giant Danios. My Husband just cleaned the 90 gal fish tank. All the Danios died. Does anyone have an Idea?

We just cleaned it a few days ago, but with the JD and Firemouths they are very messy. We didnt loose any Danios then. What could be the problem. Are they that sensitive?

We have always just added water to the tank, and never had fish die.

Thanks
Bonnie

my g danios are one of the hardiest fish I have ever had before, ive spilled beer into the tank before along with some hair spray in a accident and they lived with a 70% water change lol. So no they arent sensitive, check for chemicals you may of dropped in my accident or such as clorine water... Double check everything you have done...

Does this mean that you cleaned it with chemicals this time?

You say you "have always just added water to the tank". Did you use a dechlorinator? If so does it also remove chloramine? Water departments are notorious for spiking chloramine to solve problems. Also I know danios are very hearty fish but I am not sure about giant danios other than they are a completely different species and come from Sri Lanka so might have different tolerances and requirements. But I doubt this has any bearing.

Hello,

Thanks for all the responses. I am waiting for my test strips to arrive in the mail, but we have always just used tap water. My husband transfered 5 more LG danios to the tank and they are doing fine.

Unfortunatley i didnt have any dechlorinator. But when we do 20% water change i never have used it, and we have a 55, 90, 30 and 10 gal tanks.

No We dont use chemicals in tank. We only vac the bottom with a 20% water change.

We have 2-5 gal jugs we use just for filling tank. Nothing Else. So there wouldnt be anything in there.

The baby oscar we have was even at the bottom of the tank not doing well. So i hurried up and moved him to my 5 1/2 recovery tank for my babies. He is doing so much better. Im going to leave him there for another day or so. The recovery tank i mentioned had baby guppies in it and i just moved them out last night to a bigger tank.

Thanks so much for all the advice.
Bonnie

childawg,
dont think i will actuallly

neo,
so are you sayin there is chlorine in the water? or do you have well water? it there is chlorine it should kill all the fish, not just the danios. if there is chlorine, there is no way your fish are healthy

Hello,

dbcb314~All i lost was the danios. I have 2 firemouths, 3 JD's, 4 crabs. They are all doing fine.

We have city water. Its not well water. But we have filled the tank for yrs with city water. The city i live in the population is about 300. I have had my 55gal tank for 6mths and never had any problem. It has convict, Jd, Giant Danios.

I guess i wont know until i test the water.

thanks
Bonnie

Bonnie chances are ,you would not have lost any fish if you had used a tap water conditioner to remove the chlorine.
It really would benifit your fish.

The chloramines are the worst, as they cannot be removed simply by surface agitation, but water conditioner is important if you use municipal water.

First off my understanding is that small municipalitys are the ones who use chloramines the most. Second, I think I am getting this right and I hope someone will correct me if I am wrong, chlorine will either evaporate or bind with the oxygen if let to set overnight or is agitated but chloramine releases amonia when doing so and if your ph is high can be extemely fatal. Therefore previously it is possible that all of the cholorine was rendered impotent before it harmed your fish but if your water company spiked with chloramine then the released ammonia actually killed off some of the fish but not all, before your bacteria filter could reduce it, much the same as in cycling the tank.
