hello everyone, i was wondering if anyone could help me with this. i have about 20 ramshorn snails in thier own 10 G breeder, the problem im having is that part of the fitler is made of steel for some reason and its rusting, i was wondering how tolerant the snails are of rust and if i should remove the filter

I've bever heard of a filter having steel parts, aside from stainless steel impeller shafts, and SS doesn't rust. In any case, whatever is rusting is going to fail sooner or later. You might as well replace it with something better before it becomes a problem.

it has steel mesh on the intake and on the output of the motor, i dont think i can remove it without busting sumthing its on there pretty good

Actually, I meant replace the whole filter. What brand is it? My preference is Aquaclear for hob filters. They're quite versatile regarding filter media, and have a lifetime warranty. Not to mention being very reliable and quiet.

yea perhaps ill just garbage it and use this submersable stingray filter i got, will the rust already in my tank harm the snails or should they be fine?

IMO, the stingray will do fine for a snail breeder.. i have a 20GL snail tank and my stingray works beautifully for it.

thanks guys :D
