changing HOB filter

i've had my tank set up for a few months or so now. everytime a do a water change i soak the filter pack from my whisper 10 in some removed water to clean it out a little. i've noticed over the past week or so it hasn't been filtering the water as well. should i replace the media bag out for a new one? will i have to re-cycle the tank again?

just to take it part and clean it in old tank water.

you wont have to recyle the tank but you might have a mini cycle if you switch it out.
