Wow... that sounds freakin awesome...
The current design produces PAR light output levels equal to a 250W MH 20K. It uses 40% less energy than the Metal Halide Fixtures it replaces. The life of the LED`s is 50,000 hours, so it almost eliminates metal halide and fluorescent bulb replacements. All heat is radiated up and away from the tank Therefore, it does not heat the water like Metal Halides or Fluorescents. This eliminates the need for Chillers. The room air conditioner needs to work 1/2 as much since the light fixture produces only half the heat of Metal Halides which saves even more energy over traditional lighting methods.
Who wants to test them out first? LMAO

Nice concept, but ridiculous price. You can make something like that for under $100 with some LED's, relays, computer fans and some sheet metal.

led's are freakin expensive my tail lights cost $1oo bucks. so if you can build that for the same price i'll tak 10

well obviously thats gonna be about 100 bucks since its designed for a specific vehicle and entails more parts than just simple led's. It requires harnesses to plug into the existing factory cradles and requires plastic to be shaped to the dimensions of the truck's body. :duh:
But just led's are not expensive at all. You can pick up white led's with resistors/ relays for less than than 15 bucks.

there have been quite a few people who ahve tried to build very similar LED lighting system such as this, and the cost has been in excess of a $800 on each occasion...just do a search on the web, loads of people have tried..The led's are not standard led's hence one of the reasons why this unit cost so much...

That technology looks awesome!
And I can't wait till the price goes down... It may take a while but there are so many possibilities that demand is prone to skyrocket and then price will plumit!
Just think with this new technology you will be able to couple your lighting system with you pump system and simulate an actual reef! Lower the tide, and brighten the moon to promote spawning etc... With the aid of a computer the possibilites are endless:duh:
I'm gonna have to read more about this!

I worked for a LED distributer, and LEDS are not all that they are hyped up to be - the actual life of a LED is usually half of whats normally stated - and like normal bulbs will have to be replace over time. My guess is that this lamp will need to be replaced in 5 years - as by then the LEDS output will be less than half of the original output.
Also just as LCD monitors have dead pixels- you can get dead LEDS over time.
Looking again at the advertised light - They have 100 LEDs in the fixture - so that equates to about $20 a led. If you really want LEDS you might as well buy the best LEDs you can find for US$2 each and make a unit yourself.
And yes, LEDS will be good if the can prices drop by 80%.

actually, no it wouldn't magically float from the heavens, I would build it like I said. Now stop arguing before this thread gets closed.
