there are many types of fluorescent bulbs. you have to match them up to make sure they work.

How many / what size bulbs on what size tank?
What type of corals are you looking to keep?

In most cases, the answer is no, as normal output fluorescent bulbs do not produce enough light for the majority of corals to thrive. People have and do keep certain low light corals under standard fluorescent lighting, but in the cases I've seen they put as many bulbs over the tank as would fit and the tanks are typically shallow tanks.
