Hello, all!

I successfully kept a sw tank about 10 years ago - but since then, the tank has been in storage due to a move from the US to Europe courtesy of the US Army. Tank is now out of storage, albeit with a completely ruined stand that I have to replace. I guess my first question is, what kind of cleaning should I do before I get set up? The tank was wrapped up and stored in a crate, but still, 10 years in stoage, wow. (Tank is a 50g SeaClear sys II, if that makes any difference...)

At this point, I'm not even sure I have all the parts.....lol But I figured this was a good place to come to get reminded of what all I need to do to get the tank back up and running.

Thanks to the owner for such a great resource!

Hello there Jonetta..

Well, a warm welcome back to marine keeping...There is plenty of information in the newbie section about the current trends of equipment that should bring you back up to speed on keeping the systems.

Cleaning wise, a good rigourous cleaning with a white vinegar and water solution will be good and give it real good scrub, paying particular attention to the joints and corners..

What are you plans for the system? Fish and rock, or are you going for a full Reef?

Niko,

Thanks for the reply....I've been reading through the newbie forum most of the afternoon, already driving my husband a little nuts, I think! ;)

I'd really like to go reef, I think.....I didn't get that far before having to store the tanks.

Welcome to AC! Firstly, I thank you and/or your family for serving our country- much respect there.

Probably obvious but I would just do a double check to make sure your tank doesn't leak water. A reef sounds like a great idea. Thought about any of your future inhabitants yet?
