In my 30 gal long tank I have two male convicts (i think) that are about 1.5-2 inches. I am going to trade one for a female to a friend who has two females that are about 2.5 inches. I also have a pleco that is about 3 inches. I want to get one or two other small fish that will swim up above the rocks to mabey ease some aggresion in the tank. Should i get these fish or is it to much for my tank. Does any one know of any fish that might be good for this?

maybe some giant danios or tiger barbs

I would suggest something semi-agressive like barbs (like nate) and maybe some rams. Rams would be my favorite choise.

the rams would get killedfast in a 30 but the danios work well in my 50 with 3 JDs and 2 Texas

giant danios all the way. a school of 4-6 should be sufficent.
know that your convicts WILL. breed. and thus, WILL become territorial and aggressive (understatement of the year).
my giant danios are thriving in a 55g with 2 salvini's, 1 green terror, 1 gold severum, and 2 teensy firemouths.

Rams?!?!?!? They wouldn't survive a day.
Giant danios or tiger barbs would work. Black ruby barbs are also pretty tough, and fast. If your pleco is a common, he will outgrow your tank fairly quickly.

I keep a handful of zebra danios and neon tetras in with my convicts. I find myself replacing a few each month after the convicts breed, but it does give the convicts something to do to keep them from eating their fry and makes the tank more interesting. My danios stay in the current and at the top of the water while the tetras hang out mainly in the middle. I like them because both types school and stick in their groups.

that bunch I have in a 29 gal. the tetras and danios are just dither fish for the convicts because as feeders I need to have as high a % of fry grow out as possible (they have their own grow out tank as soon as the pair are ready to go at it again!)

basically fast fish to distract the convicts, in this case so they won't eat the fry or eggs
